Bois Forte Band of Chippewa Tribal Government: Department of Natural Resources

Our John Deere 550 Dozer serves many purposes here at Bois Forte. The machine is used for Site Prep, Fire Break construction and Maintenance, Wildlife food plot construction and Fire Attack.

This 1970 era Bombardier is now ready for fire attack throughout the swampy bog areas within the reservation and beyond. This machine has tremendous amount of power and versatility. It carries two personnel in an enclosed cab with fire ready equipment stored throughout.

Forestry maintains two conventional ATV’s to support fire and forest management activities.

ATV Units

The only tribally owned Ford in the fleet, this F250 serves as our command unit in the field. At the helm is the Reservation Forester. This unit also serves as a tow vehicle and carries many hand tools and similar equipment.

What organization would not be complete without a unit for the crew. This 1 ton crew cab serves many purposes here at Bois Forte by providing transport for the crew, as a tow vehicle, as a unit with a slip on when needed and more.

Current Weather

Below is a listing of our current Wildland Fire Apparatus that is stationed at Bois Forte.

From this office we respond to local wildfire concerns, statewide, and national incidents.

This is our Flagship. A Federal Model 52 Program truck. This truck has a 300 gallon unit with a 23 Hp Biggs & Stratton Vanquard engine with a Wildfire^® Mark III pumphead.

The allotment truck carries a 125 gallon slip on unit and carries a Mark III pump on it. It is mainly driven by the Allotment Forester.

This 1970 Jeep Kaiser 5 ton military truck has been re-outfitted for tender duty. As a 2500 gallon unit, it is capable of hauling a large quantity of water to a fire scene. The unit is complete with its own pump w/ hose and dust abatement system. This workhorse also serves as our tow vehicle for our forestry/ fire dozer.

Our newest unit, a Polaris 6x6 Ranger utility vehicle, with a 50 gallon slip on unit. This unit is trailered and ready to go on a moments notice. The Polaris is designed for soft ground and remote access areas.

This unit commanded by Forestry Tech Derrick This is our second unit out. It holds a 150 gallon slip on and carries an extra floating pump unit. In Winter we use this truck for snow plowing and timber sale administration.
