WELCOME TO BOIS FORTE FORESTRY

Boozhoo  (Welcome), to Bois Forte Forestry, we are a Tribally run Forestry Program located in northern Minnesota.  In case you were not aware, Bois Forte is a split reservation with lands in Nett Lake, Vermilion, Deer Creek, Indian Point and even Voyageurs National Park.  The main Forestry operations occur on the Nett Lake Sector of the reservation with lesser amount in each of the other areas.

Within the Nett Lake reservation boundaries, Bois Forte Forestry provides initial attack for wildland fire suppression across all ownerships.  Agreements with the state DNR provide for coverage in outlying areas.

Our office manages over 43,000 acres of trust lands including approximately 156 active allotments.  Our staff includes 2 Foresters, 2 Forestry Technicians and 2 Seasonal Fire Aides. 

Trust lands are lands that are owned by the federal government and managed for the benefit of the trustee (either allotment heirs and/or tribal/band entities).  At Bois Forte we have made significant advancement in enhancing local control and management of the timber resources.

Additionally, we work regularly with other professional resource managers and other landowners on the reservation to evaluate and manage for wildlife habitat, historic preservation, and access.

As we manage the Natural Resources for the benefit of the Band and its members, our goal is to provide landscape level ecosystem management for the reservation, through active discourse and management activities.
